Code of Conduct — Volunteers

Our shared commitment to a great experience.

To maintain a respectful, safe, and impactful environment for volunteers, hosts, and communities, all Surfaway volunteers agree to the following:

1

Respect for Hosts & Local Culture

  • Treat hosts, their space, and local cultures with courtesy.
  • Be open to learning and adapt to local norms and customs.
2

Clear Communication

  • Be honest about your skills, experience, and availability.
  • Clarify expectations with your host before arrival.
  • Notify your host in advance if plans change.
3

Safety & Responsibility

  • Follow safety guidelines given by hosts and local authorities.
  • Carry out your role to the best of your ability; ask questions if unsure.
  • Respect local laws and community standards at all times.
4

Professionalism & Reliability

  • Arrive on time for agreed shifts.
  • Complete your role responsibly and ethically.
  • Communicate proactively if challenges arise.
5

Non-Discrimination & Inclusivity

  • Respect people of all backgrounds and identities.
  • Create a positive and inclusive environment for everyone.
6

Positive Representation

  • Represent Surfaway and its community well in your interactions with hosts and locals.
  • Leave each place better than you found it — for the host and the next Surfawayer.
7

Conflict Resolution

  • Attempt to resolve disagreements with courtesy and calm.
  • If resolution is not possible directly, contact Surfaway support for guidance.

Remember: Surfaway thrives on trust. Upholding this code of conduct protects you, your hosts, and the wider community — and helps us build something worth being part of.
