How it Works for Volunteers

Welcome to the Surfaway Community!

Surfawayers are travelers who want meaningful experiences at surf destinations — through a volunteer exchange or a paid role. Whether you're working reception, surf coaching, content creation, or a local project, here's how it works:

1

Create Your Profile

  • Sign up on Surfaway and complete your profile.
  • Highlight your skills, experience, interests, and what you can contribute (e.g., language support, construction/repair help, social media, yoga instruction, eco-projects).
  • Add your availability and preferred locations.
2

Search & Connect with Hosts

  • Browse opportunities at surf destinations — volunteer exchanges and paid roles.
  • Filter by destination, dates, role, and type.
  • Apply or message the hosts you're interested in working with.
3

Agree on Expectations

  • Communicate directly with the host to confirm dates, hours, and what the role includes — perks or pay, meals, lodging, surf time.
  • Clarify expectations before arrival to ensure a smooth experience for both sides.
4

Volunteer & Experience Local Life

  • Arrive at the agreed time and engage with your host.
  • Contribute your skills: whether it's helping around the accommodation, assisting with surf lessons, sharing cultural experiences, or supporting community projects.
  • Explore the local surf spots and culture during your free time.
5

Post-Stay Reflection & Feedback

  • Leave a review for your host.
  • Hosts also review volunteers, helping build trust and community reputation for future placements.

Surfaway Philosophy: Volunteering is about mutual value, cultural exchange, and shared surf adventures, not just free labor. It's about respectful contribution and memorable experiences.
